The Expedia Group Recognizes Top-Performing Hotel Partners at Cancun Travel Mart

Cancun, Quintana Roo, October 16th, 2012 — Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPE), the world's largest online travel company and one of the most important partners for the Mexican Caribbean, recognized its outstanding hotel partners from Cancun, Riviera Maya and Cozumel last night at a Partner Appreciation Event at Casa Rolandi in Cancun, Mexico, alongside more than 250 members of the local hospitality community. These award-winning properties each led their respective markets in terms of room nights booked on the more than 100 Expedia® and® travel booking sites during the first half of 2012.

Members of Expedia’s Latin American market management team are in Cancun this week to attend the annual Cancun Travel Mart summit, one of the region’s top industry events. Throughout the week, Expedia executives will meet with local tourism and hospitality representatives to discuss strategies for promoting travel to the Mexican Caribbean. The online travel company also hosted an educational ecommerce seminar for local lodging partners on October 13th. Representatives from Expedia’s Mexico & Caribbean market management teams were on hand to discuss notable travel trends, local market insight and the benefits of working with Expedia to drive bookings. Hoteliers that attended the event learned the importance of using vacation packages to drive demand. Expedia data shows that package bookings are typically made further out and have longer lengths of stay than the average standalone hotel booking, making them a valuable tool for hotels throughout the year.

Other key recommendations to hotels for working with Expedia to drive demand and increase profitability include:

- Work closely with your local market manager to develop strategies for managing traveler demand throughout the year. It’s important not to turn demand channels off during peak season – exposure generated via online channels throughout the year have been shown to result in more bookings directly to the hotel throughout the year;
- Participate actively in online marketing campaigns. Doing so can broaden the exposure a property receives to both domestic and international travelers on Expedia and sites in nearly 70 countries; and
- Maintain high satisfaction ratings among guests. Expedia data shows that hotels with a high number of positive traveler reviews experience a higher take-up rate and can command a higher average daily rate. Encourage your guests to submit traveler reviews on Expedia following their stay.
