Expedia Releases Data on Growth in Travel Bookings to Indonesia

Online travel leader unveils new business model for Indonesian hotels to reach travelers worldwide

Dec. 1, 2010 – Expedia, Inc., the world's largest online travel company, released data today showing the number of international bookings made on Expedia® and Hotels.com® global sites for travel to Indonesia has grown nearly 70% over the past twelve months, with the majority of the travelers coming from Australia, the U.S., and the U.K. The number of Indonesian hotels currently working with Expedia has also increased, growing nearly 50% during the same period of time.

“Indonesia is growing in popularity as a destination among travelers worldwide, and Expedia is committed to helping our hotel partners get in front of these travelers,” said Roman Kesseli, director of market management for Expedia, APAC. “We have a team of people dedicated to helping hotels in Indonesia showcase their properties to our global audience of travelers, and we’re excited by the growth our partners are seeing.”

Hotels that partner with Expedia can offer their property on more than 90 localized Expedia and Hotels.com online travel sites in over 60 countries across the globe. Collectively these sites receive nearly 60 million visitors each month, vastly extending the reach of hotels to new customers they would not be able to reach on their own.

Earlier this month, Expedia’s hotel relationship team in Indonesia hosted nearly 200 members of the local hotel community at educational e-commerce summits in Bali, where they presented online travel marketing and distribution strategies. The company also announced plans to launch its successful low-cost, commission-based Expedia Easy Manage (EEM) program in Indonesia, giving hotels more choice in how they can work with Expedia. The program is expected to be available to Indonesian hotels beginning December 1, 2010.
